Key Texts Collections

Some tutor-recommended resources which are in high demand are moved to one of our two Key Texts Collections.

These collections can be found on the ground floor of the JB Morrell Library, and in the King's Manor Library.

The Key Texts Collections are temporary locations for high demand resources, and items are moved into and out of the collections as needed.

The loan periods are shorter than flexible loans, and items can be booked in advance for a specific time.

Using the Key Texts areas

JB Morrell Library

The Key Texts Collection in the JB Morrell Library is located in the room next to the Help Desk.

Help yourself to the resources you need and use the self-service machine to check them out before leaving the Key Texts Collection area.

Use the same machine to return the items when you're done - don't use the main return points for Key Texts Collection items.

A York Print Plus photocopier is available in the Key Text area should you wish to copy the material you need rather than borrow the book.

King's Manor Library

The Key Texts Collection in the King's Manor Library is located next to the Help Desk.

The Help Desk staff will issue and return Key Text Collection items for you. Items from the King's Manor Key Texts Collection should be returned directly to the King's Manor Library, not via the JB Morrell Library.

Collecting requested items

If you've requested an item from the flexible loans collection (either because it was on loan, or you've ordered it), it will be kept in the JB Morrell Key Texts Collection area for you to collect.

Find your item using the code printed on the hold slip in requested books. The format of the code is:

  • the first three letters of your second name (two letters if your name is two letters long)
  • and the last three digits of your card number. This is printed on the reverse of your University card

Locate your item, and then issue it using the self-service machine in the Key Texts Collection area. Please note, the alarm will sound if you try to leave this area with any items that aren't issued.

When returning the item, please use the main return point, not the Key Texts Collection self-service machine.
