Employability skills

Boost employability skills with LFA

The LITE Teaching Enhancement Project 2018led by Caroline Campbell and Dr Karen Llewellyn (University of Leeds) provides an understanding of how languages enhance students’ knowledge, skills and attributes. It also demonstrates that employers value graduates having language skills at all levels. By taking up a new language or furthering the study of a language studied before, students learn much more than just language competency. In addition to learning to communicate in a foreign language, LFA students acquire:

Employability Skills:

  • Organisational skills and planning

  • Problem solving, creativity and innovation

  • Presentation skills

  • Teamwork & Communication

  • Commercial and world of work awareness

  • Intercultural skills

  • Ability to take on new roles and be adaptable

  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn new things

  • Breadth of experience outside the field of studies/career path

Social capital:

  • The ability to build rapport and work with others

  • Social, cultural and global awareness

  • Networking
