Senior Lecturer

My work centres on European Union law and policy-making, regulation and competition, and the role of courts in governance.

I joined York Law School in 2010. In 2014 I was a visiting fellow at the European University Institute, Florence, and at iCourts Centre of Excellence for International Courts, University of Copenhagen.

Previously I was a Research Associate in the multidisciplinary ESRC Centre for Competition Policy (CCP). Before entering academia I worked at the European Parliament and in a law firm. During 2018 I was a Parliamentary Academic Fellow providing support and advice to the House of Commons Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Select Committee on the UK's future relationship with the EU. I have also carried out consultancy for the OECD, the (then) UK Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform and the National Assembly for Wales.

I am the University’s Europe theme lead in the York-Maastricht Partnership. At departmental level I am Athena SWAN gender equality lead.

  • Constitutional challenges of EU regulatory techniques (supported by York-Maastricht Partnership funding, with co-investigator Prof Mariolina Eliantonio (Maastricht) and colleagues from and beyond both universities)
  • Managing regulatory divergence in the UK's future relationship with the EU (including an ESRC Impact Acceleration Account grant to support a Parliamentary Academic Fellowship)
  • The UK's relationship with EU regulatory agencies and networks
