United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders benefits from contributions by York Law School staff.

Staff contributed to the recent report to the United Nations General Assembly of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders.

The report which is reviewing the progress over the last 20 years since the Assembly's adoption of the Declaration on Human Rights Defenders, also warned of the deteriorating situation faced by defenders all over the world despite States’ obligations to ensure the protection of human rights defenders.

The report was supported by research and drafting by Martin Jones, and includes a world survey (to be released in December on the 20th anniversary).

Martin's secondment to the United Nations ended in September.
