Financial support for undergraduate students

The University of York offers several undergraduate bursaries and scholarships, ranging in value from £1,000 to £8,500. Most of these bursaries and scholarships are means-tested. Full information about the bursaries and scholarships for undergraduate students is available here:

In addition, we are delighted to offer the DINESH VASWANI SCHOLARSHIP. This scholarship will be awarded to one new Home/EU undergraduate student each year at the beginning of their studies in the Department of Language and Linguistic Science.  The Scholarship came into effect for academic year 2013-14, and is awarded based on residual household income (falling within the band £25,001-35,000) and academic potential.

The value of the Dinesh Vaswani Scholarship is £4,500 across the three years of study in York (£1,000 in year 1, £1,500 in year 2, £2,000 in final year) and will be paid directly to the student in the Autumn term of each academic year, subject to satisfactory academic progession. All Home/EU students who achieve a place to study in our Department, and who meet the financial eligibility criterion, will automatically be considered. The scholarship will be awarded by a panel of academic staff from the Department of Language and Linguistic Science based on information made available through UCAS. The recipient will be notified towards the end of September, prior to the start of term.

The University and the Department are grateful for the establishment of this scholarship which will provide a fitting tribute to Dinesh and his long association with the city and the University.
