Profile

Biography

Dan joined Languages for All in January 2013 as Teaching Fellow in Chinese.

Prior to coming to LFA, she taught Chinese language at the Department of East Asian Studies and the Business School, Newcastle University. At the University of York she teaches Chinese at elementary and advanced levels. She obtained her BA in Business Management from the Edinburgh Napier University and MA in Education from Warwick University. After working as a Chinese language instructor at the Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School, Coventry, she undertook her PhD in Chinese at Leeds University. At Leeds she participated in an extended translation project translating ‘The Maid of Buttermere’ (by Melvyn Bragg) into Chinese; in addition to teaching Chinese to BA and MA students, she ran language workshops for school pupils from West Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Her main interests include theories and practice of teaching Chinese as a Second Language and her aspiration is to develop students’ learning skills and help students to become independent learners of Chinese.
