Spanish Talk: ‘In conversation with Carlos Cervantes Azcona’ - Cómo inicié mi negocio de importación con China (y cómo aprendí de nuestras diferencias culturales)

Wednesday 23 November 2022, 5.00PM to 06:00 PM

As part of the Department of Language and Linguistic Science’s ‘In conversation with…’ series, on Wednesday 23rd November 2022, Carlos Cervantes Azcona (former senior civil servant and current entrepreneur of Mexican import business ‘AnyCar Importaciones’) will be conversing with Elia Lorena López (Lecturer in Spanish) about his experience in setting up his import business with China.

In conversation with Carlos Cervantes Azcona

In 2019, Carlos Cervantes Azcona decided to retire from the public sector in Oaxaca, Mexico, to focus on his law firm and to set up an import business of biodegradable products. Carlos and his business partner embarked on a trip to China for their first product sourcing mission; they had to learn everything from scratch and proved to be a difficult yet fascinating adventure. In addition to sharing the steps they followed in selecting his products, sourcing his suppliers and other proceedings, he will discuss aspects of cultural differences he had to navigate during his visit to China.

The talk will be entirely in Spanish. This event is open to everyone with an interest in understanding the importance of using other languages when travelling for business and how cultural differences enhance communication and cross-cultural exchange in varied and unexpected ways.

The talk will take place at 5:00 pm on Zoom, and there will be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions to our guest. To join the event, click on this link.
