Language Teaching Forum - Workshop: What linguacultures are we teaching? Linguaculture, transnationality, and power

Tuesday 28 June 2022, 1.00PM

Speaker(s): Karen Risager (Roskilde University, Denmark)

On Tuesday, 28 June 2022 Karen Risager (Roskilde University, Denmark) will lead an interactive workshop on “What linguacultures are we teaching? Linguaculture, transnationality and power.”

Workshop: What linguacultures are we teaching? Linguaculture, transnationality, and power

All language learners have developed different linguacultures as part of their life histories and social and cultural experiences, including the learning of one or more languages. This also goes for the teacher. In language teaching the teacher should facilitate the further development of the learners’ linguacultures in the larger societal and global context, and one may ask what linguacultures are allowed to enter the classroom, given the linguaculture of the specific teacher and the linguacultural potentials of the materials?
