This event is the second workshop-style seminar in the series and will take place on Saturday 26 March 2022 at 10.00 (GMT) via Zoom.

Seminar 2. 対話型美術鑑賞- Interactive art appreciation through dialogue (dialogical art appreciation)

Dialogical art appreciation is a method of art appreciation focused on the subjective experiences of individuals whereby a process of dialogue provides participants with opportunities to reflect on and develop their thoughts and values through observations of the contents and features of the artwork they view.  This method has been applied in education and its effectiveness has been emphasised in developing people’s creativity, thought processes, listening and communication skills.

Our second seminar is planned to provide participants with opportunities to engage in dialogue with others using artwork based on the method of dialogical art appreciation.  Participants will exchange their thoughts and impressions through their observations on paintings.

The aims of this seminar are:

  • to experience the process of dialogical art appreciation
  • to share participants’ reflections on their experiences and the techniques
  • to engage in dialogue with others not only during the dialogical art appreciation process but also in sharing reflections and experiences
  • to evaluate its values and potential for individuals and within education

Invited speakers, Professor Kazumi Misawa and Naomi Muronaka, will facilitate the dialogical art appreciation processes of participants and their reflections. Participants will have opportunities to interact with each other through small group activities as well as in a larger group. Professor Misawa will also give a talk on the topic and his work and projects that are based on it.

The seminar is for all Japanese language educators in the UK and beyond. It will be conducted in Japanese.
