Building Linguistic Systems Conference 2022

Tuesday 14 June 2022, 9.00AM to 16 June

On 14-16th June 2022, the Department of Language and Linguistic Science will be hosting the Building Linguistic Systems Conference to celebrate the retirement of Prof Marilyn Vihman. The event was originally scheduled for July 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic.

Building Linguistic Systems Conference

We hope you will be able to join us in York for a conference to mark the retirement of Professor Marilyn Vihman in Summer 2020. Professor Vihman’s work on the relationship between perception and production has changed our understanding of how children build early phonological representations, and her publications on phonological, lexical and morphological development have become essential reading for child language scholars around the world.

Themes of the conference will include:

  • Early phonological, lexical or morphological development
  • Interaction between production and perception
  • Emergent systematicity

We are pleased to welcome Janet Pierrehumbert (University of Oxford) as our plenary speaker.

Conference Programme: Building Linguistic Systems Programme

The conference will take place in person on campus, in the Berrick Saul building. Given that this will be a small-scale event with lots of opportunity for networking, we have decided not to offer remote attendance as an option.
