Careers in Speech and Language Therapy Q&A event

Thursday 19 November 2020, 6.00PM to 7:00 PM

Have you considered a career in Speech and Language Therapy? This is a line of work where you can make a real difference, applying the knowledge and skills you've gained on your degree to work with patients who have difficulty communicating (or even eating, drinking or swallowing). Speech and language therapists treat a wide range of speech and communication problems, drawing upon knowledge of linguistics, particularly phonetics, as well as developmental and cognitive psychology.

Join our Zoom Q&A to chat with our panel of invited speakers, who are all University of York alumni (Language and Linguistic Science) and who cover a range of experience, from established speech and language therapists to recent graduates.

Prior to the event we will be sharing a short introductory video from each of our speakers so you can get to know them a little better, and then during the live Q&A you'll have the opportunity to ask questions about their career journeys and how you can follow in their footsteps to become a speech and language therapist.

Speakers:

  • Robin Lindop-Fisher, Speech and language therapist at Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust. Graduated from York in 2010 with BA English Language and Linguistics.
  • Katie Wilkins, recently graduated from MSc in Speech and Language Therapy. Graduated from York in 2017 with BA English Language and Linguistics.
  • Sally Deacon, currently undertaking an MSc in Speech and Language Sciences at University College London. Graduated from York in 2020 with BA English Language and Linguistics (with Placement Year).
