Biography
I joined the University in 1983.
I was a recipient of the prestigious University of York 'Vice Chancellor's Teaching Award' in 2009 as part of the MA in Teaching English to Young Learners (distance programme) team.
In 2012 I was awarded a 'Rewarding Excellence' award, given to staff in recognition of sustained outstanding contribution or over-achievement.
In October 2012 Access UK won the prestigious English Speaking Union Presidents Award given for innovative use of technology in teaching materials.
Departmental roles
Managing the provision and day-to-day demands of all aspects of the diverse Computing and Media technical support services to Language & Linguistic Science/LFA teaching, research and administrative facilities in the following professional skill areas:

Selected publications
Access UK, developed by Chris Copland and Huw Llewelyn-Jones, is a video-based, interactive language program that prepares international students for the whole range of situations they may face in the UK: a visit to the doctor, sorting out visa problems, disputes with flat mates, personal safety in a UK city... essential input for a smooth transition to campus life.
The program focuses on language and guidance, with a particular emphasis on the spoken skills and vocabulary needed for practical and social situations. Challenges such as making friends, walking home late at night or dealing with a theft, are illustrated in a series of video scenes. Filmed in and around a UK university, the course gives learners access to authentic English and genuine situations, and the opportunity to bring this to life through active viewing.

Overview
I am a qualified Gym instructor specialising in Group Cycle, Metafit and Circuit training.
I edited the feature length documentary The Last Men Standing which won two awards at the 2024 North East International Film Festival.
My other interest is motor engineering and in 2023I rebuilt a Porsche Boxster 986 2.7.
