The Information Directorate - Library, IT and Archives - has recently been accredited with the Customer Services Excellence (CSE) award. It’s the first department in the University to be awarded this standard - and one of the first converged services (ie Library and IT Services) in Higher Education to receive it.

Google have recently introduced enhanced security features on Google Apps for Education. This allows them to alert account holders if they see suspicious activity - for example, a Google account being accessed from an unusual location - this is known as Login Challenge. They intend to alert people by text message, and as such will be encouraging account holders to register their phone number with them.

Microsoft no longer provide updates for Windows XP, which makes machines running the operating system increasingly vulnerable to virus infections and other attacks. To protect our network, we will be restricting - and in most cases, removing - access to the network by Windows XP devices by the end of the summer vacation.

From 1 May 2014, your IT account will expire one day after you leave the University. This is in response to the requirements of research funders and auditors, and ensures that we can prevent unauthorised access to University data.
