The Institute of mental Health Research serves as a connection hub that carries out and disseminates world-leading mental health research. It catalyses new partnerships and sustains existing collaborations across the University of York and beyond.

It amplifies the visibility and reach of the University’s mental health work locally, nationally and internationally, and maximises and diversifies our research income and outputs, ensuring our work leads to positive impact and serves the public good.

We are a fertile environment that nurtures early career researchers: we pump-prime their work with seed funding, enable them to gain experience within established research teams and create opportunities for them to lead on mental health research projects and initiatives.

We work with Involvement@York, our external partners and the public to expand and support the representation of lived experiences of mental health from a diverse community of service users, carers, professionals and citizens.
