Kollam Plates exhibition in the HRC

Posted on 21 November 2013

The Humanities Research Centre will host a banner exhibition on the 9th-century Kollam Plates, 2nd - 14th December 2013.

The 9th century copper Kollam Plates

The exhibition highlights the work of a recent AHRC-funded network exploring the world of the Indian Ocean through a set of copper plates granting land to a church on the southern Indian coast at Kollam. Visitors are invited to browse the banners, and help themselves to leaflets. More information can be found on the project website.
The exhibition is currently on display in the King's Manor common room, where it will be until Friday 29th November. There will also be a screening of the National Geographic film 'Jewel of Muscat' which tells the story of a 9th century wreck, reconstructed by the Sultanate of Oman and sailed to Singapore as an insight into early Arab shipping (http://www.jewelofmuscat.tv). The film will be shown in King's Manor, room K133 on Friday 29th November at 1pm.
