Two fully-funded PhD studentships are available on a major new AHRC project at the University of York

Two studentships are available as part of a major new project, “England’s Immigrants, 1330-1550”, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and led by Professor Mark Ormrod (History) with Dr Craig Taylor (History) and Dr Nicola McDonald (English and Related Literature), to start on 1 March 2012.

This exciting new project examines the lives of the numerous foreigners who chose to make their lives and livelihoods in England in the era of the Black Death, the Hundred Years War and the Wars of the Roses. The project aims to contribute to the longer-term history of immigration to Britain and to provide a deeper historical context to contemporary debates over ethnicity, multiculturalism and national identity.

This is a great opportunity to pursue your academic interests and to gain valuable experience of research and impact as part of a committed and dynamic team.
