Congratulations to Dr Laura Stewart, who has won the American Historical Association's Morris D. Forkosch Prize for her book Rethinking the Scottish Revolution: Covenanted Scotland, 1637–1651 (OUP, 2016).
Dr Stewart's book is the first new analysis of the civil war era in Scotland for a generation. It proposes a new analytical framework for early modern Scottish history using themes such as state formation, public opinion, print culture, gender, and popular politics, as well as providing a thematic account that opens up fresh possibilities for comparative work between Scottish and English scholars.
The American Historical Association offers the Morris D. Forkosch Prize annually in recognition of the best book in English in the field of British, British imperial, or British Commonwealth history since 1485.
