York PhD student wins Huguenot Society Scholarship

Congratulations to Jonas Van Tol who has been awarded a prestigious scholarship by the Huguenot Society.  Jonas is a third-year PhD student working on a thesis entitled ‘The Rhineland Nobility and the Coming of the French Wars of Religion, 1552-1572.’ The thesis aims to explore the relation between the Protestant princes of the Holy Roman Empire and the French Huguenots during the outbreak of the Wars of Religion. By examining networks of sociability, cultural ties, religious identities, and diplomatic relations, Jonas hopes to contribute to our understanding of transnational dimension of the Wars of Religion.'

This annual scholarship is awarded by the Trustees of the French Huguenot Church of London Charitable Trust, on the advice of the Institute of Historical Research. The award is given to a student working for a higher degree on a Huguenot subject in any geographical area.
