News of a new chapter ‘Global and local histories of medicine: interpretative challenges and future possibilities’ out soon

Professor Sanjoy Bhattacharya (Professor in the History of Medicine, Director of the Centre for Global Health Histories) has contributed a chapter ‘Global and local histories of medicine: interpretative challenges and future possibilities’ to the upcoming volume A Global History of Medicine edited by Mark Jackson.

Professor Bhattacharya’s chapter focuses on smallpox eradication and reflects on the sources and methods necessary to integrate local and global dimensions of medicine more effectively.

A Global History of Medicine explores the history of medicine across continents and countries from ancient to modern times, and examines the changing systems of medicine in both Eastern and Western traditions. It offers up-to-date discussions of key themes and issues in the field of global health history.

More information on the volume, which is set to appear in early 2018, is available on the Oxford University Press website.
