Sanjoy's Bhattacharya's latest video presentation ‘History Matters: WHO EMRO and the Worldwide Eradication of Smallpox’ is now available to view online. The video provides a historical overview of smallpox eradication, and sheds light on various public health, social and political factors which contributed to this landmark global health achievement. It explores the value of critical and evidence-based research and analysis for contemporary health policy. Professor Bhattacharya was invited to make a recording of the presentation, which was originally given to WHO staff during a visit to the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean for Global Health Histories Seminar 103 - 'United Nations, Health Systems & UHC: histories, present & future', for the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean YouTube channel.
Thanks go to the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, the Wellcome Trust and the Department of History at the University of York for making this recording possible.
