CGHH PhD Student update – Arnab Chakraborty

A report on recent research and upcoming conference activity

In early 2017 CGHH PhD student Arnab Chakraborty was awarded a grant from the Rockefeller Archive Center to aid his research on the medical scenario of the Madras Presidency in colonial India at their facility. Arnab’s research report ‘Understanding Subordinate Healthcare in Colonial Madras: Shift in Women and Rural Healthcare (1918-1932)’ is now available to access online.

On Saturday 7th July Arnab will take part in a themed roundtable discussion on the 'Body in Colonial India' at Goldsmiths, University of London. The following week, he will present a paper titled 'Evolution of Women Medical service in Madras during the interwar period' at the Social History of Medicine Conference in Liverpool.
