CGHH Director Professor Sanjoy Bhattacharya speaks on COVID-19

The first webinar of the inaugural CES Insights webinar series focused on the COVID-19 pandemic.

Council for European Studies Executive Committee Chair Erik Bleich introduced the webinar. Former CES Executive Committee member and author of Political Sociology and the People’s Health Jason Beckfield moderated the discussion featuring a multidisciplinary expert panel: 1) Sanjoy Bhattacharya is Director of the History Department’s Centre for Global Health Histories, Professor in the History of Medicine, a Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator, and Head of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Global Health Histories (based at the University of York). 2) Julia Lynch, Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania, studies the politics of inequality and social policy in the rich democracies, particularly the countries of western Europe. She also serves as an expert advisor to the WHO’s European regional office. 3) Sangbum Shin is Professor of International Relations at Yonsei University, where he studies global health from an IR perspective. Three of his most recent articles are “Global Health and IR: A Bibliographical Essay,” “Infectious Disease Control in Northeast Asia: A Comparative Case Study of Disease Surveillance Systems in China, Japan, and Korea,” and “Health Diplomacy in Korea.”
