Susie Beckham is a second-year PhD candidate supervised by Professor Elizabeth Prettejohn. Her doctoral thesis is focused upon a re-evaluation of the Pre-Raphaelite art label, exploring the term's origins and intended meaning in mid-nineteenth century Britain through to its international and intermedial use in the present day. Susie completed her Undergraduate MA (Hons) in History of Art and Art-world Practice at the University of Glasgow and Christie's Education, and completed her MA in History of Art at Birkbeck, University of London. In addition to her focus on Pre-Raphaelite studies, Susie is interested in the work of the frequently neglected artist Anna Alma-Tadema (1867-1943): a focus which formed the basis of her MA thesis. Susie is also an Associate Editor of Aspectus: A Journal of Visual Culture, the History of Art department’s postgraduate publication.
