Susan completed her Ph.D. with the History Department at the University of York, and is a Research Associate with CREMS. Her original field was the cultural history of dress in early modern England, but over the years has broadened her research to cover dress practices to the present day. She has published on a wide range of topics in the field, from the production and distribution of clothing in the Renaissance, to body work in the twenty-first century. Her latest book, Hair: An Illustrated History, has just been published. Before moving to the UK, Susan gained an MA in English Literature in New Zealand, where she then worked as a primary school teacher.
