Biography

Oliver completed his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in History of Art at York before commencing a PhD in partnership with the Burrell Collection, Glasgow. His doctoral thesis draws on the Burrell's extensive collections of medieval art to examine how late medieval heraldry engaged medieval glaziers and their patrons during its manufacture in medieval stained glass. Supervised jointly by Sarah Brown and Vivien Hamilton, Oliver's work also brings these museum objects into dialogue with extant glazing projects from later medieval English houses, to uncover the role of heraldry within medieval childrearing, housekeeping and the formation of elite identities.
