Gabriella Beckhurst is a second year PhD candidate working under the supervision of Cadence Kinsey and James Boaden. With a working title of ‘States of nature: imaging queer environmentalism since 1970’, their thesis examines critical representations of nature and landscape in queer and feminist art histories, particularly in light of developments in queer theory and the contemporary environmental movement. Their broader research interests span visual art, time-based media and performance in Europe and the Americas since 1965; eco– and health activism; life narratives and autoethnography in art and theory. Gabriella holds an MA in Contemporary Art Theory from Goldsmiths, University of London and a BA in Fine Art from Norwich University of the Arts. They have worked in a curatorial capacity on exhibitions and public programmes in London, Venice, Biel, Switzerland and New York, most recently for Dig Where You Stand at the Carnegie International 2018, Pittsburgh.
