Francesca Curtis is a second year PhD candidate working under the supervision of Dr James Boaden and Dr Cadence Kinsey. Her thesis examines contemporary artistic practices from an ecological perspective. Drawing on the fields of posthumanism, ecocriticism and anti-capitalist theory, she addresses models of relationality in systems, moving image and land art practices within the context of a globalised and environmentally damaged world. Her broader research interests also cover photographic and sculptural practices, animals in art, and artistic interpretation from materialist and post-structuralist perspectives. Francesca received both her MA in History of Art (Modern and Contemporary Art) and BA in History of Art from the University of York.
