New Book by York Alumna

Posted on 16 May 2018

Former student in the department, Dr Jasmine Allen, has just published a new book on global stained glass studies

Nineteenth-century stained glass and the international exhibitions, 1851–1900
ISBN: 978-1-5261-1472-3Windows for the World: Nineteenth-Century Stained Glass and the International Exhibitions, 1851-1900 (Manchester University Press), is a major contribution to global nineteenth-century studies. Based on her ground-breaking doctoral research at York, this is the first major work to explore the global development of stained glass as showcased at and influenced by ten international exhibitions, in Britain, France, the United States and Australia. Through the exhibits, it explores material and technological innovations, iconographic themes and visual ideologies. This underpins an examination of the wider cultural, political, economic and global contexts for the production, circulation and critical reception of stained glass in the second half of the nineteenth century.

Jasmine is now curator of the Stained Glass Museum, at Ely.

Huge congratulations to Jasmine!
