The Virgin of the Rocks

On Friday 6 December, the Department of History of Art is hosting a colloquium in collaboration with the National Gallery, London, in conjunction with the Gallery’s exhibition Leonardo: Experience a Masterpiece.

The colloquium, ‘The Virgin of The Rocks: Artists and Writers Responding to Leonardo c1850-c1930’ will explore the 19th- and early 20th-century reception of Leonardo in general, and The Virgin of the Rocks in particular.

The colloquium has been organised by Professor Amanda Lillie (University of York). Speakers include Professor Liz Prettejohn (University of York), Professor Hugh Haughton (University of York), Dr Susanna Avery-Quash (National Gallery), David Russell (University of Oxford), Dr Lene Ostermark Johansen (Københavns Universitet, Copenhagen), and Dr Luke Uglow (University of York).
