The Trailblazers programme is part of a response to the 2017 Government Green Paper for Transforming Children and Young People's Mental Health. The paper set out proposals to provide additional support to younger people through schools and reducing waiting times for treatment.
To ensure the response met the challenges of such a large scale project, a 13 week public consultation was undertaken, receiving 2,700 responses. These responses were taken into consideration throughout the planning and implementation process of what became the Trailblazers programme.
Mental Health Support Teams, launched as part of the Trailblazers programme, aim to develop early intervention methods for moderate or less severe mental health and emotional wellbeing issues, including anxiety and friendship issues. It is also hoped the support teams will help to ease the workload and pressure on staff at schools and colleges, serving as a link between education institutions and local Children and Young People's (CYP) mental health services, and reducing the waiting times for treatment.
PCMIS is a trusted technology partner of NHS Improving Access to Psychological Therapy (IAPT) and CYP services. Our longstanding expertise and commitment to data quality means we are well placed to support the Trailblazers.
Working alongside a number of NHS trusts in the Trailblazers regions, we are currently exploring how our solutions can help ensure Trailblazers sites run as smoothly as possible, and that the data required for the programme is delivered accurately and securely to NHS England through submission to the Mental Health Service Data Set (MHSDS).
If you're a Wave 1 or Wave 2 Trailblazer region and would like to discuss how PCMIS can support the new programme, we'd love to hear from you. Please get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org or drop us a line on 01904 321322.
