What is PCMIS?

PCMIS stands for ‘Patient Case Management Information System’.

It is a web-based system, designed to collect and analyse a range of client and service data in order to provide real-time information and reporting to mental health professionals and support staff. The system was designed to help services to manage high volume mental health caseloads efficiently and accurately.

The PCMIS mental health case management system was originally designed to meet the needs of NHS Improving Access to Psychological Therapy (IAPT) services. Since its creation, however, it has expanded and evolved, and is now flexible enough to support a wide range of services.

PCMIS users now include:

  • Adult NHS IAPT services
  • Children and Young People’s (CYP) NHS IAPT services
  • Higher Education and student services
  • Military Veteran services
  • Providers of other mental healthcare, such as eating disorder and perinatal services
  • Mental health charities
  • Healthcare organisations internationally, e.g. in Australia

What information does PCMIS collect?

PCMIS is able to collect, store and report on a wide range of data:

  • Contact, demographic and accessibility information
  • Case notes
  • Outcome measures responses
  • Client risk measures
  • Appointment and diary information
  • Service information

What kind of reports does PCMIS provide?

The system is able to create a huge variety of reports to suit a wide range of services and roles. Data can be displayed in a variety of formats, and the system contains a number of configurable reporting dashboards.

The PCMIS Story

PCMIS was pioneered by the University of York's Mental Health Research Group that models, develops, measures and tests new ways of organising treatment for people with mental health problems.
