During her undergraduate degree and after graduation, Rocio worked mostly in the private healthcare sector in Mexico, particularly in the medical technologies field. She then decided to pursue an MSc to learn more about the decision-making mechanisms of health systems and their impact on technologies, science and patients.
After researching on the health literacy characteristics of American diabetic patients, Rocio became more interested in patient’s interactions with science and scientific information. During her PhD with the TRAPS team, she will explore public’s interactions with scientific information regarding alcohol research and the factors mediating such interaction, such as the role of the alcohol industry.
Rocio's main research interests consist in exploring how lay audiences or the general public interact with scientific information disseminated by the alcohol industry, and whether this shapes their attitudes towards alcohol and the alcohol industry
