Mary’s background is in primary care and cardiology. She originally trained as a general nurse in South Shields and after qualifying she mainly practiced in acute cardiology working in both Leeds and London. She moved back up to Leeds and initially worked at the University of Leeds medical school teaching clinical skills and patient assessment.
In 2002 she went back to clinical practice, she helped set up, and then worked for five years as a clinical nurse specialist, in the primary care based Bradford Heart Failure Service. For the last 10 years she has worked as a Community Matron in Leeds. She has been a guest lecturer at the University of York since 2004 and now works part-time as a lecturer in advanced practice.
