Biography

Julia Hackett is a Research Fellow in the Martin House Research Centre (MHRC), within the Department of Health Sciences at the University of York. Julia is also the Public Involvement Lead for the MHRC.

Julia specialises in applying qualitative methods to explore the care and support of children, young people, and young adults living with a life-limiting condition and/or medical complexity, and their families. She has extensive experience of palliative care, both from an adult and paediatric perspective.

Research

Overview

Julia has particular expertise in applying qualitative methods to explore the care and support of children and young people with palliative care needs and at end of life; their families; and the health and social care professionals who support them. Julia’s research interests include families’ experiences of end of life care and bereavement support, particularly how parents are supported immediately following the death of a child and the impact of this on longer-term outcomes.
