Sam Bayley
Department Manager



Sam is the Department Manager with overall responsibility for all professional services within the Department of Environment & Geography. Sam joined the team in September 2019.
Alongside this role, Sam is the Change Lead for Organisational Structures as part of the University's Strategic Change Programme. He is also a College Fellow of Halifax College, a University Mediator and Rapid Improvement Event facilitator. He served as an elected University Council member from 2017-2020.
Sam is a Fellow of the Association of University Administrators and sat on the Board of Trustees for the AUA from 2014-2020.
He is an alumnus of York and also holds an MBA from the Open University. He rejoined the University in 2010 as a staff member, with previous roles in Space Management and the Department of Sociology.
Key duties:
  • Overall responsibility for all business processes and professional services support
  • Planning, human resources and financial management/approval
  • Strategic and executive support to the Head of Department
  • Member of the Department's Leadership Team
