Giovanna’s research is focused on non-lethal methods to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts, with particular interest on fertility control for wildlife, free-roaming dogs and livestock.
As a science communicator, Giovanna is regularly invited to give lectures at national and international conferences. She published > 70 popular science articles, in addition to webinars, blogs and peer-reviewed papers. Giovanna has secured funding for research from government and non-governmental agencies in the UK and overseas.
She provides regular advice to governmental and international organisations. Examples include invitations by FAO as expert on dog population management (2011) and on African Swine Fever as wild boar expert (2021), by WHO as expert on feral dogs (2012), by the European Food Safety Authority as expert on wild boar trends and immunocontraception (2014, 2018 and 2023).
