Profile

Biography

Felicia Liu is a Senior Lecturer in Sustainability in the Department of Environment and Geography at the University of York. She teaches topics related to sustainable finance, sustainable business, and human geography.

Her research is guided by her curiosity about the interaction between capital, society and nature in the Anthropocene. A core part of her work focuses on sustainable finance as an important tool in (re)mediating the relationship between human and non-human nature in contemporary times. Her current research looks at sustainable finance in the realms of biodiversity and FinTech, including financing for data centres, and FinTech solutions for biodiversity. 

Felicia is also interested in how society makes sense of anthropogenic environmental changes, as reflected in her ongoing work on the construction of Seasons of the Anthropocene and environmental art-activism. 

She welcomes MSc and PhD students interested in deploying qualitative methodologies to study sustainable finance, and non-state actor responses to environmental change.

Prior to joining DEG in January 2023, Felicia held a joint appointment at the University of Oxford as Junior Research Fellow in Geography at Jesus College and Research Associate at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment. She obtained her doctorate in Geography in 2022, jointly awarded by King’s College London and the National University of Singapore, and her thesis won the FinGeo Doctoral Dissertation Prize 2022. She also holds an MA in Climate Change (Distinction with Geography Department Prize, King’s College London) and BA in International Politics (First class, King’s College London).
