Place and Space in Edith Wharton’s Fiction
Dr Victoria Coulson
My current interests lie in Edith Wharton, Place and Space, American Literature, Narrative, Global Women’s Writing, Art and Literature, Fantasy, and Science Fiction.
I have previously written on southern American literature; American writers in Paris; genre, experimental Writing, and gender in British and American modern fiction; space and power relations; and narrative strategies in women’s writing.
Using an interdisciplinary approach, my thesis explores the representations of places in Wharton’s fiction and multiple historical materials in late 19th and early 20th centuries. This research tries to build up a rich understanding of places and justify Wharton’s importance in constructing American and transatlantic geographical memories.
