Thesis Title:

Archbishop Wulfstan (d. 1023) Latin Sermons

Supervisor:

Professor Elizabeth Tyler

Description:

My research studies Archbishop Wulfstan’s Latin sermons (broadly defined); aiming to provide the first comprehensive overview of his Latin religious corpus. I have transcribed and translated a select number of Latin sermons from their original manuscripts before conducting in-depth literary analysis. Through these case studies, I study intertextuality and manuscript variation to answer questions about the position of Wulfstan’s Latin works across time (into the twelfth century), across space (onto the continent), and across textual communities (influencing and being influenced by other writers).

My research is AHRC funded through the White Rose Consortium of the Arts and Humanities.

I hold an MA in Medieval Literatures and Languages and a BA in English and Related Literature, both from the University of York. I teach across the English Literature and Medieval Studies departments at York: both literature modules and medieval languages modules (Latin and Old English specifically).
