Thesis Title:

Literature of Suspicion: A Post-1945 Metaphysics

Supervisor:

Dr Alexandra Kingston-Reese

Description:

My thesis explores suspicion as a literary and affective metaphysics of the post-45 transatlantic novel. Just as critics have become suspicious of the hermeneutics of suspicion inherent in literary criticism, I propose that the novel, too, is informed by a politics of suspicion. Tracing a history of literary suspicion from 1945 to today, I aim to establish the often invisible dialogue between criticism and fiction, conditioned by a metaphysics of skepticism and wariness; as well as to propose an illuminating history of the literature of suspicion and its power to condition the attitudes of literary thought.

I hold a BA in Comparative Literature from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and in 2020 I completed my MA in Modern Literature at Goldsmiths, University of London. In addition, I have undertaken studies in Creative Writing in Escuela de Escritores de Madrid.

I am currently an artist-in-residence in the Connecting Emerging Literary Artists (CELA) programme, funded by the EU. Furthermore, my writing has been sponsored by the Community of Madrid and my first novel was shortlisted for the Herralde prize.
