This term, the Department of English and Related Literature ran a competition among all undergraduate students to find a quotation to grace the front of a limited run of letterpress postcards, produced by the Thin Ice Press.

Our winner, Sophie, chose a beautiful quotation, “The truth, finally, is who can tell it.” from Chang-Rae Lee’s Native Speaker.

Sophie helped create the design of the postcard which was sent out to our offer holders with a message describing her reasons to pursue her love of literature at York and welcoming new students to our community.

We had so many brilliant entries and choosing just one winner was really difficult, however. Reading beautiful quotations and, especially, hearing students describe so eloquently their reasons for choosing theirs, was such a pleasure, with students reflecting on the links between literature and the real world being "the reason students come to university" and "Everyone, lecturers and students, has this infectious passion for literature" at York.
