York English Excellence

Posted on 10 May 2018

Twenty-three English department teaching staff have been nominated by students for the York University Student Union’s annual Excellence Awards.

Staff have been nominated for making a difference to students’ experience in and beyond the classroom. The comments accompanying the nominations describe students’ experience in moving terms, singling out English department staff as ‘wonderful and inspiring’, ‘incredibly enthusiastic’, ‘dedicated, committed, supportive, caring and encouraging’, and ‘fabulous teachers’.

Students tell us that staff ‘always make me feel supported and confident about my academic life’ and are ‘caring and sensitive to my needs as an international student’. They commend the feedback they have received, and the inspiring passion of our teaching staff.

Particular congratulations to Claire Chambers, Kenneth Clarke, Jon McGovern, and George Younge who have been shortlisted in the categories of PhD Research Supervision, Most Inspiring, Promoting Equality and Diversity, and Outstanding Feedback, respectively.
