PhD student awarded Huntington Library fellowship

Posted on 19 April 2018

Fiona Milne, a PhD student in the Department of English and Centre for Eighteenth-Century Studies, has been awarded a short-term fellowship at the Huntington Library, California, for 2018/9.

The W. M. Keck Foundation Fellowship will allow Fiona to spend one month at the Huntington Library, where she will examine the Richard Carlile papers. Carlile was an early nineteenth-century radical publisher and freethinker who, together with his family and supporters, spent long periods in prison for his publications.

Fiona’s project at the Huntington is provisionally entitled “Character, self-defence and moral improvement in the writings of Richard Carlile and Eliza Sharples”.
