The Quiet Place Book Club: ‘If I Had Your Face’ by Frances Cha

Thursday 27 January 2022, 8.00PM

Join us for the January meeting of The Quiet Place Book Club, where we will discuss If I Had Your Face (Penguin, 2020) by Frances Cha.

To start the new year, we are immersing ourselves in the stories of Kyuri, Miho, Ara, and Wonna––a 'room salon' girl, an artist, a hairstylist and a homemaker. These four women, and their difficulties and conflicts are brought together in Cha’s first novel, an exploration on ‘female strength, resilience’ and ‘friendship’. Continuing with a thematic path we started with Stranger Faces, the essay collection by Namwali Serpell we read in August, we continue exploring the idea of beauty and the often unrealistic standards of contemporary societies in our choice for this month.

If I Had Your Face is a vivid, eviscerating depiction of social realism in contemporary Seoul. Frances Cha render gender and class struggles with forensic detail, in a luminous voice both knowledgeable and compelling”–Sharlene Teo

You can purchase a copy of If I Had Your Face from Fox Lane Books. Please register in advance for this meeting.

Everyone is welcome!
