Our diverse and inclusive degree programmes ensure that students encounter texts by LGBTQ+ writers at all levels of undergraduate and postgraduate study. Specialist modules vary from year to year: see our current module catalogue for more information.
Along with core teaching on Queer Theory at Level One and a range of period-specific approaches to LGBTQIA+ literature at Level Two, we offer research-led modules on queer writing and cultural history. Level Three Advanced Option Modules may include Modernism’s Queer Spaces, which introduces students to drama, fiction, poetry, and life writing by LGBTQIA+ writers from the late-Victorian period to the mid-1950s. The module examines LGBTQIA+ texts in their cultural, political, and legal contexts, demonstrating an interdisciplinary and intersectional approach to literary study.

We offer postgraduate students the opportunity to take a range of in-depth approaches to queer texts, contexts, and theories. Recent MA modules have included:
