Gender Equality and the Audio Industries

Department of Electronic Engineering Senior Lecturer and PhD Student to take part in an expert panel on gender equality and the audio industries.

Senior Lecturer Dr Jude Brereton and PhD Student Kat Young, both from the University of York's Department of Electronic Engineering, will be taking part in an expert panel session on Gender Equality and the Audio Industries. The panel will be focusing on the current challenges to gender equality and will be discussing the tangible actions people can undertake to create a more positive, gender equal audio industry.  

‌On 22 February 2018 the Audio Engineering Society (AES), North of England section, will be hosting a panel session on Gender Equality and the Audio Industries under the banner of the #HeforShe United Nations Campaign. Initiated by UN Women, HeForShe is a campaign that strives for equality by encouraging men and boys to take action against negative inequalities faced by women and girls. HeForShe is inviting people around the globe to stand together to create a world that is gender equal. 

Speakers include:

  • Dr Jude Brereton (Senior Lecturer in Audio and Music Technology, University of York),
  • Kat Young (PhD researcher, University of York),
  • Dr Liz Dobson (Senior Lecturer in Media Technology, University of Huddersfield)
  • Emmanuel Vaas (Senior Lecturer in Professional Studies and Music Business; International Pianist).

The session will be chaired by Dr Mariana Lopez (Vice-chair of AES UK; Lecturer in Sound Production and Post Production, University of York).
