York in the world’s top 100 for its international outlook

Posted on 14 January 2016

The Univeristy of York have been ranked as one of the 100 most international universities in the world by Times Higher Education (THE).

THE used the ‘international outlook’ indicator of the 800 universities considered in its World University Rankings to create the new league table. We are 93rd in the new list.

The diversity of a university’s student body and the extent to which its academics collaborate with international colleagues indicate the global vision of an institution. These factors are among the 13 performance indicators used to compile the Times Higher Education comprehensive global university rankings.

Our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Koen Lamberts, said: “We have long recognised the importance of developing a global perspective to deliver world-leading research and our teaching and the broader student experience prepares our students to forge careers anywhere in the world. We have achieved this ranking by developing strategic alliances with some of the world’s best universities and organisations; by increasing our investment in staff and student mobility programmes and by ensuring that our curriculum has a strong international outlook. This has meant that York is attracting increasing numbers of world-leading staff and ambitious and focused students from across the globe.”

The University of York has students from nearly 100 countries and staff from around 80.

Phil Baty, Editor, THE Rankings said: “An institution’s global outlook is one of the key markers of a prestigious university. The top institutions hire faculty from all over the world, attract students from a global market of top talent and collaborate with leading departments wherever they happen to be based.

“It is great news for all the institutions in the list of the most international universities in the world. It is a sign of great potential, competitiveness and dynamism.”
