Inclusion

This theme is concerned with prioritising the inclusion of marginalised and disadvantaged groups. The research strand is particularly concerned with the inclusion of children and young people with special educational needs. Our work is rooted in a social model understanding of disability, which locates the ‘disability’ with the system or institution in which a young person is placed, In other words, barriers to equitable participation and success are attributable to existing educational policy and practice, rather than the child’s differing needs.
