Why did you decide to train as a teacher?

I decided to train as a history teacher in order to share my love of learning and in order to teach vital skills to the next generation, while still developing my own skills set.

Why did you choose to train with the University of York?

I chose to train with the University of York because of its prestigious reputation for teaching and learning. In addition, I was so familiar with the facilities and the campus it made the transition from undergraduate to postgraduate study much easier for me.

What have been particular highlights of your training so far?

The enthusiasm and quality of the training of the course have been particular highlights. Every day I feel motivated and supported in the journey to becoming a successful teacher. This is also the same for my placement school, where I feel I am being supported by experienced staff in an outstanding school.

What advice would you give to current University of York undergraduates in your subject area who are thinking of teaching and considering doing their training at York?

I would say to definitely consider the University of York as an option, if considering becoming a history teacher. The skills learned in undergraduate history are further developed and moulded to suit secondary school pupils. The staff are passionate and hardworking, which is so beneficial to my professional development as a teacher. I would say it is a great career if you love learning and working with children, while constantly developing your knowledge and skills. If you are looking to utilize the skills from your history degree, becoming a history teacher through York does this. You are able to progress academically through the Masters level assignments and progress in the teaching profession through learning from tutors who collectively possess a wealth of experience.
