Why did you decide to train as a teacher?

I wanted to choose a career in which I could utilize my degree. I have been a swimming teacher for many years, so knew I loved working with children, and how rewarding this can be. The two just came together and I decided to apply for teacher training.

Why did you choose to train with the University of York?

It was never really an option to go anywhere else. York is somewhere I always wanted to study, and I loved my time here during my undergraduate degree. The city is beautiful and the support you get from the university while studying is great.

What have been particular highlights of your training so far?

I really enjoyed the first few weeks of university sessions. It was great to be with people who were going through the same situations in their placements. Although it was daunting to teach my first lesson, I really felt as though I had achieved something once I had finished.

What advice would you give to current University of York undergraduates in your subject area who are thinking of teaching and considering doing their training at York?

I would 100% recommend that you apply. Even if you aren’t sure it’s what you want to do. It’s a great career and I’m sure that once you have started the course you would be drawn into the benefits of teaching.
